Many security companies have started to include patrol tracking systems as part of their quality assurance measures.  This is the case for security companies across America including.   Patrol tracking systems are typically used for patrols .  Most patrol tracking systems use either GPS or RFID technology.  All companies that use either technology claim to have the best options.  Clients are often unclear of which technology is better.  Here is some basic information to assist you in evaluating tracking systems utilized by security companies competing for the opportunity to provide protection.

GPS Tracking Spaceship at the Earth orbit GPS based patrol tracking systems typically involve systems that are either hardware-based systems installed in a vehicle for mobile security patrols or software-based systems installed in a smartphone or other cellular-based device.  Systems that are installed in mobile patrol vehicles tend to be the most dependable GPS based solution.  They are either installed in a secure tamper-resistant box or plugged into a port inside the security patrol vehicle.  These systems use GPS satellites to track and report location information of the vehicles.  The challenge is that systems installed in mobile patrol vehicles cannot track patrol activities when the officer exits the vehicle.  Many mobile patrol sites tend to have areas that are not accessible by vehicle. In such cases, the officer must exit the vehicle.  This is particularly the case for community security patrols.  Smartphone-based systems are designed to provide the benefit of tracking the officer’s presence wherever they are.  At first glance, this would system to be the best option.  However, under further review, the solution is far from perfect.  The primary challenge is the inconsistent nature of cellular technology.  Smartphones are prone to freeze, have system errors or lose reception preventing the software from tracking properly.  This is particularly the case for remote sites needing construction security, community security or building security sites where officers are needed to patrol inside buildings.  Cell phones simply cannot work everywhere.  Smartphone systems are also fragile and may be subject to guards who “accidentally” damage the phone rendering them inoperable.  Even phones in rugged cases can be broken if expressed to moisture, dropped or hit hard enough.  If choosing between these options it is best to use them solely for vehicles. RFID Patrol tracking systems Depositphotos_8737656_xs RFID patrol tracking systems involve small disks that are installed at various points across the area that is to be patrolled.  The security guard carries a wand during his patrols and touches the wand on the checkpoints as they pass them.  The security company managers or field supervisors then collect the wand and generate reports.  The advantage of these systems is that they operate regardless of weather and can be used indoors or outside.  Due to the simplicity of their construction, these systems rarely experience mechanical error.   The wands are usually rubberized preventing them from being damaged.  RFID patrol tacking reports detail dates and times the officers patrol each area.  The disadvantage of these systems is that reports cannot be generated in real-time.  Security companies use the reports to track patrol trends and hold security guards accountable for lapses in coverage after the fact.  A large part of the effectiveness of these systems is the fact that security guards know these systems are dependable.  As a result, guards are less likely to attempt to get away with no performing their duties. RFID and GPS patrol tracking systems each have their advantages and disadvantages.  Ultimately, the best option depends on your specific needs.  While smartphone-based systems are becoming increasingly popular, the dependability issues seem to outweigh the advantages.  Vehicle-based systems are the best for mobile patrols.  RFID systems are a better option for sites not involving vehicles.
