After performing a scheduled test of their fire suppression system at their Washington DC location, the International Union of Operational Engineers (IUOE) discovered that their system was not receiving the proper water pressure. As a result, they needed fire watch service in for their Washington DC location. They called Urgent Security Services. Urgent Security’s Director of Account Management, Rudo Robinson spoke with the IUOE representative and gathered the details of their need. Due to the size of the building 5 patrol officers were required and they needed to get there as soon as possible.
Urgent Security’s dispatch team immediately began contacting their patrol officers to be sent to the location. While dispatch contacted officers, the account manager assisted IUOE with creating and submitting a fire watch according to the regulations of the Washington DC fire marshal. The fire watch team was mobilized, and 5 fire watch patrol officers were at the location and on duty within 3 hours. Each officer was equipped with reflective vests, two-way radios, bullhorns, flashlights and cell phones. They also carried patrol logs that were used to document their patrol activity and observations. The team included a supervisor who created a command center on location to coordinate patrols and direct the team. Additional officers were dispatched to provide breaks without reducing the number of officers on patrol. Members of Urgent Security’s field supervision and senior managers performed site inspections on several occasions to inspect the staff, measure job performance and assist as needed. After 3 days the IUOE received word that the problem was fixed and the sprinkler system was fully operational. After receiving approval from the fire marshal’s office, the fire watch patrols were ended.
Urgent Security Services ability to send multiple firewatch officers within a short period exceeds the capabilities of most security companies in Maryland, Washington DC or Virginia. The situation described in this article is not unique for Urgent Security. Urgent Security has fielded as many as 13 fire watch officers to arrive at a location within 3 hours of the time that initial request for service was made. These are some of the many reasons why organizations across the Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia view Urgent Security Services as the right choice for fire watch services. Need fire watch?
